FRED WILLIAM DUNN 1884 - 1925

support

Fred Dunn was an anarchist and writer who was very active in the London anarchist movement before and during the war. He was a key writer and editor for the Anarchist newspaper “Freedom” and reported on the Anarchist Congress in 1915 which called strongly for an immediate end to the war. Fred lived in a commune that served as the centre of the Anti-Conscription League, which encouraged anarchist Conscientious Objectors to resist conscription. His leaflet “Defying the Act” was printed in huge numbers and called for British men everywhere to refuse to obey any military order.  After his arrest in March 1916 he managed to escape by travelling to the USA where he used his talents to encourage resistance to conscription into the US army.
